It should come as no surprise that I made ANOTHER garland! lol But, as mentioned in so many other posts, garlands are the easiest, cheapest, and most simple way to decorate your home for a holiday or season. Since that groundhog last week did not see his shadow, it declares that we are going to receive an early spring! So why not get started early on making some spring crafts?
One of my main goals any time I decide to make something is to do it in a budget friendly way. So I decided to go into Michael's Craft Store. Now some people may say that going to a craft store can murder your wallet, however there are ways to keep the costs down and still get great materials! Any time you go to Michael's, always check online for any promo coupons going on, and a lot of times these coupons can be used on top of sale prices. Another great tip is when you purchase something there, you get a 40% off any item coupon at the bottom of your receipt, AND if you do the survey at the end of your receipt as well, you can also get up to 20% off your entire purchase! A discount is always helpful when trying to stay on budget, even when it is only 20% off!
So to make this garland, I knew I wanted some bright, vibrant spring colors. Idea after idea kept piling in my head until it hit me: scrapbook paper. Now, in Michael's, they have an entire section dedicated to scrapbooking. They have booklets of paper, cardstock, and felts. However, in order to make this project simple and cheap, I narrowed my search to the single sheet section. They have tons, and I mean tons of design choices. The prices range anywhere from .25 cents or $3.00. The higher the price, the more detailed the sheet is, such as rhinestones, lace etc. So I began to look for those spring pastels and came across the section where the price was only .75 cents each. Bingo! They had tons of patterns, polka dots, chevron, gingham, and even stripes. So here are the ones I picked, cost me 1.78 for 3 sheets!
The lighting is kind of awful, but I picked a green gingham, blue polka dot, and pink and white striped sheets! Along with some jute twine string and scissors! Don't forget some type of adhesive, I used hot glue.
Next I went onto google images to find my bunny shape that I wanted for my garland. Here is the image I chose!
So after printing out the bunny image I began to trace him out the on scrapbook paper. A tip that I have is to trace it on the back side of the sheet, that way the pen line from tracing will be on the back rather then on the front of your garland. Next I cut out all my images, and after this step you will have the grip strength of a quarterback.
After cutting out all your shapes, I cut out 9, I then flipped them over to hot glue the string to the back of the bunny ears, like so.
Once the glue dries, you can then flip them over and there you have it! A simple, inexpensive garland!
Now I personally added cotton balls to their bums for their tails, but you can add them or leave them! It is up to you! Here is the finale product!
I showed both garlands, one with the tails and one without. I think both are so adorable! I am so excited to decorate for Easter and Spring! Thanks for reading! :) More crafts to come!
